Learner driver insurance – this option benefits you and your child whilst they are learning to drive. Marmalade provide a policy that ‘bolts on’ to your own car insurance so they can learn to drive in your car but if they have an accident your policy will not be affected. This is paid monthly and will stop when your child passes their test. Premiums are around £80 pm
New driver insurance – This is a 12-month policy for drivers aged 17-24, covering cars up to 9 years old and with a maximum engine size of 1.4litres. No other named driver under 25 years old can be covered under this policy. The policy is unique in that the price stays the same regardless of whether the driver has just passed their test or is a provisional licence holder, so if they start the policy on a provisional licence, there’s no increase when they pass their test.
The insurance is underwritten by Allianz and we are seeing premium’s as low as £950 for an annual policy for a young driver.

Insurance premium tax – the government announced in this year’s budget that insurance premium tax will be increasing to 10% from 9.5% as of 1st October. The extra 0.5% will be used to fund flood management projects in the UK. This change will affect all non-exempt insurance in the UK.
