Under your motor insurance policy, you may have spotted an element of cover called “Driving Other Cars”.
The big question is… what does this mean? Read on to find out more.
You may have the ability under your motor insurance policy to drive another car that does not belong to you. However, are you aware that this cover is “Third Party Only”?
This means that in the event of an accident it is only the third party involved that will be indemnified, you and the car you are driving will not be covered.
If you are looking to drive a friend or another individuals car, we recommend being added temporarily to their car insurance policy. Most providers can facilitate this and will come at a small additional cost. However, you then have the safety net of being fully comprehensively insured (As long as the persons insurance is fully comprehensive cover).
It’s important to note that no vehicles owned by you can be covered, it is only for vehicles not belonging to you.
If you have a “Driving Other Cars” extension on your policy, this is really there to keep you protected in cases of genuine emergencies only and is not recommended for pre-planned trips.
From an individual car to a fleet of commercial vehicles, we can help find the right cover for you. We can tailor packages to include breakdown cover, legal cover and protecting your no claims bonus. Whether you’re a young driver, using your car for the school run or shopping, or in connection with your business we can find the correct insurer for you.
