This month marks the Summer Solstice, the official start of summer! So, we thought we’d share some simple top tips on how to stay safe when driving in the warmer weather.
Make Use Of A Sun Shield
There’s nothing worse than getting into a boiling hot car in the height of summer – so we would recommend using a sun shield. When placed on your windscreen whilst your vehicle is parked, they can help to cool down the interior of your car. Not only this, but they can also be used on the back windows to protect your little ones from being hit by harmful UV rays whilst driving.
Wear Your Sunglasses
Sunglasses are a must when it comes to driving in the summer time, but it’s important that you wear the correct type – polarised sunglasses. These type of sunglasses not only reduce eyestrain but also increase visual comfort and diminish reflections and glare.
Assess Your Tyres
As temperatures rise by the scorching hot sun, the air inside your tyres starts to increase and expand, which frighteningly, can cause them to burst. Make sure you regularly check for signs of damage on your tyres and ensure that the pressures are always correct.
Check Up On Your Windscreen Wipers
It may be summer – but this is the UK… so it’s a good idea to make sure your windscreen wipers are functioning correctly and are all topped up with washer liquid ready to go just in case. Not only for those pesky summer showers, but also for any insects or debris obstructing your view on your windscreen whilst driving.
Keep Hydrated
We are prone to losing more water from our bodies through perspiration during the hot summer months, therefore it is particularly important for us to stay hydrated, especially whilst on the road. Remember to carry plenty of fluids with you close to hand to avoid dehydration whilst driving.
