What Does Your Comprehensive Car Insurance Actually Cover?

As an insurance broker, we speak to drivers every day who assume “comprehensive” means everything, all the bells and whistles. Unfortunately, that’s not always the case.

Here’s what comprehensive car insurance typically does include:
– Accidental damage to your vehicle
– Theft or attempted theft
– Fire damage
– Vandalism and malicious damage
– Windscreen repairs
– Third-party liability (you damage someone else’s car/property)
– Driving abroad (often only third-party cover)

But here’s what might not be included – unless you specifically add it:
⚠️ Courtesy car during repairs
⚠️ Breakdown cover
⚠️ Legal expenses
⚠️ Personal belongings in the car
⚠️ Lost or stolen keys
⚠️ Driving other cars – often excluded unless stated

It is important to read the fine print and ask questions about what your policy covers. “Comprehensive” doesn’t mean “everything under the sun.” That’s where a good broker comes in – we help you understand your cover so you’re not caught out when it matters most.
